Mayor Michael Bloomberg may have canceled his morning radio appearance today in response to the ongoing manhunt for a suspect involved in Monday’s deadly bombing attack on the Boston Marathon, but another top New York official, Governor Andrew Cuomo, scheduled his own radio interview on The Capitol Pressroom soon after. Mr. Cuomo directly addressed the high-profile situation in the Bay State by employing a phrase he previously usedto describe climate change in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy: “the new [...]

Obama Admin Looks To Control Americans’ $19.4 Trillion In Retirement Accounts
Remember that old phrase, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help”?
Well, it looks like we are hearing it again, at least on the issue of keeping Americans’ retirement funds safe.
The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is weighing whether it should take on a [...]
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned internet users at the Wilson Center this morning that cyberspace was becoming more dangerous as more and more Americans go online.
“Every individual on the net is vulner – is a potential, uh, opening,” Napolitano stated, adding that the internet was a “great thing.”
“We just want to make sure that everyone remains safe and free,” she continued. “So that requires everyone to take some responsibility, [...]
Intelligence officials: Iran has nearly finished a nuclear enrichment plant
The installation of the last centrifuges at Fordo represents a milestone for the Iranians that the Obama administration hoped to avoid. In September 2009, Mr. Obama, along with the leaders of Britain and France, revealed the existence of the site, in an effort to galvanize international efforts to stop Iran’s program. His top national security aides predicted that the public exposure [...]
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has become the chief attack dog against his co-religionist Mitt Romney, but on Wednesday that attack went even further when his official Senate office released a statement that attributed a quote to Mr. Romney, even though he said the exact opposite.
Mr. Reid’s release quoted the Republican presidential nominee’s staff as telling the Boston Globe that Mr. Romney would “not honor deportation exemptions” that President Obama [...]
From Page Nine:
This is another example of a gun-controller myth that gets in the way of real solutions, and points to the need for gun-control counseling. The gun controllers’ fears are so great they interfere with arriving at real solutions.
There are guns in the hands of criminals… despite laws strictly forbidding guns in the hands of criminals. That’s as close as this phrase (“guns on the street”) can be applied.
What [...]
From Newsmax:
The return/risk profile of the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index has dropped to its lowest point of the last 100 years, according to mutual fund manager John Hussman.
That certainly points to an overvalued, overbullish market, he writes in his weekly commentary.
“All of this should make bells go off for anyone familiar with market history. Of all the investment adages that are being embraced as reasons to accept market risk, [...]

A small group of immigrants gathered in Woodbury Monday to protest the use of the word “illegal” to describe those who have entered the United States without documentation.
“By saying illegal, they’re assuming that we broke a criminal law,” said Jackeline Saavedra, 27, of Bay Shore, a Touro Law Center student who identified herself as undocumented. “Not everybody enters illegally.”
Coordinators said they prefer the phrase “undocumented immigrant.”

Today 40 year veteran, Robert Fitzwilson, wrote the following piece exclusively for King World News. Fitzwilson is founder of The Portola Group, one of the premier boutique firms in the United States. Here are Fitzwilson’s observations: “Scylla and Charbydis were mythical sea monsters. Lying off the coast of Italy, Scylla faced across the Strait of Messina, at Charybdis, lying along the Sicilian coastline. Scylla took the form of a rocky shoal, and [...]

‘Long-term greedy” was the phrase that Sidney Weinberg, Goldman Sachs’s legendary managing partner from the 1930s to the 1960s, used to describe the American investment bank’s overarching strategy. Such a pious mission statement from a corporate titan would make a modern audience balk. However the phrase neatly encapsulates the way that Goldman Sachs has operated over the past 80 years, a period in which it has risen from [...]
From Thomas Sowell on LewRockwell.com:
When I first saw a book with the title White Girls Bleed A Lot by Colin Flaherty, I instantly knew what it was about, even though I had not seen the book reviewed anywhere, and knew nothing about the author.
That is because I had encountered that phrase before, while doing research for the four new chapters on intellectuals and race that I added to the revised edition of [...]
Russia’s lower house of parliament has passed the bill in its third and final reading, despite criticism of censorship from the country’s most popular websites.
The original proposal, which has been under review in the Duma since last week, implied that only “harmful information” would be censored.
However, that phrase was amended on Tuesday night, and the list of reasons for which the government will be allowed to shut down a site is now [...]
The meme is spreading.
Previously we associated the phrase “ice age” with SocGen’s Albert Edwards, who uses it to describe this peristently miserable market and economic environment that’a chracterized the world for the past 5 years.
Now even Morgan Stanley’s top economist Vincent Reinhart is adopting it, as his latest weekly note refers to our “:ittle Ice Age” in the title.

The Only Valid Security Check
Policy Letter May 22, 1961 (Amends all existing data on Security Checks)
Since a Security Check failure can compromise or injure a person’s position or economics, and because we are not moralists, it is better to be more positive on the subject of a Security Check failure, leaving no part of it up to judgment.
The question of what constitutes a Security Check failure [...]

The Italian-Spanish solution for direct recapitalisation of banks cannot be applied to Greece at present, since the country has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding for its bailout loans, Eurogroup chairman and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker clarified in an interview with the AMNA webTV internet service on Friday.
He noted, however, that Europe had to take into account the impact of the austerity measures, especially on low income groups, [...]

There was just one relevant phrase uttered in all of last night’s bluster, and ironically it came from Italy’s own Mario Monti who said that there are “no plans for boosting bailout funds.” This really is all that matters.

Wednesday night on “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert dedicated this nightly “The Word” segment to the phrase “Free Lunch” and to discussing the corrosive influence of labor unions on the American way of life.
Unions are killing America’s small towns, said Colbert, “Their demands for a livable wage and accessible fire exits have gutted our economy.”
Fortunately, he said, public employee unions in Wisconsin have been stripped of their right to [...]
Losing its genitals, being eaten alive, or fighting off enemies: It’s a tough life for nephilengys malabarensis
The phrase ‘eunuch’ has derogatory connotations for us humans – but it is a different matter for spiders.
The male nephilengys malabarensis spider loses its spider penis when it has sex with a female, which is in itself a clever (if potentially painful) evolutionary trick, as it plugs up the lady spider’s genitals and stops [...]

A commonly stated remark over the past 10 years has been “rates have nowhere to go but up.”
Of course, this has been wildly incorrect every time it’s been said, as US Treasuries are on an amazing run, and rates have collapsed to a record low of 1.46700% as of today.
So for posterity, we’ve collected all of these

While English dominates the language choices, the Europeans (Dutch, Germans, and French) are extremely ‘interested’ as are the Chinese…but it appears the Singaporeans are running the most scared (as we noted here) is perhaps not surprising, followed by the Irish and the Americans – with Germany a disappointing 10th – perhaps they really do not care as much as everyone’s bluff-calling hopes. It seems the fears of real ‘bank runs’ are becoming [...]

Stan Collender notes that, for the first time in four years, the U.S. Treasury reported a surplus in the month of April. It isn’t just that there was a surplus in April of 2008, though. Stan offers three reasons that the [...]
