Let’s have a look at what we knew 2 years ago, but is now mass media confirmed:
1. 40 year clean up at the least – check
2. robots can’t even get near it – check
3. Tepco confirmed to have released radioactive water directly into the ocean – check
4. radiation into the ground water – check
5. fish not eatable due to radiation – check

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501)’s discovery of leaks in water storage pits at the wrecked Fukushima atomic station raises the risk the utility will be forced to dump radioactive water in the Pacific Ocean.
Leaks were found in three of seven pits in the past week, reducing the options for moving contaminated water from basements of reactor buildings. Water in the basements is from the months after the earthquake and tsunami [...]

Massive New Water Leaks at Fukushima
An official Japanese Parliamentary inquiry found that recklessness by the operator of the Fukushima nuclear reactors caused the Fukushima disaster.
Tepco subsequently admitted as much.
Tepco’s recklessness – and nickel-and-diming cheapness – in dealing with the post-accident response has caused the release of more radiation than necessary. In fact, massive radiation has been released on a daily basis … for years.
Now, Fukushima is suffering from huge new leaks of contaminated water into [...]

Fukushima tank springs major leak
120 tons of radioactive water escape from underground facility

Around 120 tons of contaminated water with an estimated 710 billion becquerels of radioactivity has probably leaked into the ground under the Fukushima No. [...]
Radioactive water may have leaked into the ground from a tank at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the operator said on Saturday, the latest in a series of troubles at the crippled facility.
Up to 120 tonnes of contaminated water may have escaped from one of the seven underground reservoir tanks at the tsunami-damaged plant, according to a Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) spokesman.
The leakage came after one of the [...]

Is Fukushima Leaking … Or Is the the Reactor Wholly Uncontained?
You may have heard that Tepco – the operator of the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plants –announced a large leak of radioactive water.
You may have heard that the cooling system in the spent fuel pools at Fukushima has failed for a second time in a month.
This is newsworthy stuff … but completely misses the big picture.
Japanese experts say that Fukushima is currently releasing up [...]

Worse Than Ever?
Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen said today that the containment vessel at Fukushima reactor 2 has a large crack in it.
Reactors 1, 2 and 3 all exploded.
BBC reports today:

They don’t really know what the state of the reactor core is.
Indeed, there is no containment at Fukushima.
Large quantities of radiation are still leaking into the Pacific Ocean. And see this.

Just came across a couple of articles. Don’t know if anyone has posted them yet.
Anyways, 1st off, Tepco says it has 220,761 metric tons of radioactive water stored. (The containment vessels are cracked and they constantly have to pump in water to run over the exposed fuel. The water is then stored in tanks which are currently 95% full.

Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant is struggling to find space to store tens of thousands of tons of highly contaminated water, it emerged today.
About 200,000 tons of radioactive water used to cool the broken reactors are being stored in hundreds of gigantic tanks built around the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant.
Operator Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) has already chopped down trees to make room for more tanks and predicts the [...]
Federal regulators Thursday disclosed the most detailed information to date on damage at California’s idled San Onofre nuclear power plant, where scores of tubes that carry radioactive water have eroded at an alarming rate.
The detailed data, posted obscurely on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission website, has implications for the future of the seaside plant that has been offline since a tube break in January released traces of radiation.
The records provide the [...]

The operator of the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has been dumping something like athousand tons per day of radioactive water into the Pacific ocean.
Remember, the reactors are “riddled with meltdown holes”, building 4 – with more radiation than all nuclear bombs ever dropped or tested – is missing entire walls, and building 3 is a pile of rubble.
The whole complex is leaking like a sieve, and the rivers of water pumped into the [...]

About 12 tonnes of water contaminated with radiation has leaked from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.
Plant operator TEPCO believes most of the water flowed into the Pacific Ocean. It says the contaminated water leaked from a treatment pipe.
The water contained radioactive strontium which tends to accumulate in bones and can cause leukaemia.
It is the second time in two weeks there has been a leak of [...]
