A new study from the conservative Heritage Foundation estimates that granting a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants will cost US taxpayers at least $6.3 trillion.
Heritage Foundation scholar Robert Rector authored the long-anticipated study, which is sure to be cited frequently by foes of the immigration reform effort as lawmakers take up legislation to overhaul the nation’s system.
That calculation derives from the federal benefits Rector believes an estimated 11 million [...]
Title says it all, however, there’s no word on what caused this. Anyone got specifics?
Is this just a glitch, or something more ominous? Any of our UK friends care to chime in?
The group, which owns Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and the Bank of Ulster, apologised to its customers amid reports that they were unable to access their accounts or withdraw money.

The federal government’s system of tracking immigrants’ status is so broken that it gives a green light to one in eight aliens who have been ordered deported, according to an audit Tuesday that found the government has gone on to approve some of those who slip through for work in sensitive areas of airports and granted them benefits such as Medicaid or food stamps.
Some of those aliens who should have been kicked out [...]

The American Medical Association (AMA) recently published a paper proposing the introduction of a new law to force you and your children into experimental vaccine trials against your wishes. Your only way out of this directive would be to sign an ‘opt out form.’
In January, the AMA published a paper by Susanne Sheehy, BM BCh, MRCP, DTM&H, and Joel Meyer, BM BCh, MRCP on the ‘Virtual Mentor’ website, stating [...]
An under-reported development of this campaign season is the Republican Party’s decision this week to send Gov. Mitt Romney into the presidential race on a platform effectively calling for a new gold commission. The realization that America’s system of fiat money is part of its economic problem is moving from the fringes of political discussion to the center.
This is a sharp contrast from the last time a gold commission was [...]
Britain will not be able to block an inflation-busting rise in the EU’s budget, which will cost taxpayers an extra £350million.
The UK is expected to vote against a proposal to raise the budget by 2.8 per cent for 2013, but the EU’s system of qualified majority voting makes it unlikely the increase will be thrown out.
The Netherlands and Sweden are expected to join Britain’s call for more fiscal prudence, but [...]

The draft version of the comprehensive cybersecurity bill could give the Homeland Security Department the ability to take “any lawful action” against contractors if their systems are under attack.
Bob Dix, a former staff director for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and now vice president government affairs and critical infrastructure protection for Juniper Networks, said that could mean taking over a vendor’s system that [...]

CHICAGO — The outlook for the Chinese economy is cloudier than it has been in years, experts said.
The road ahead for China is the “great unanswerable question,” said Lawrence Summers, the former top economic adviser to President Barack Obama, in a speech at the American Economic Association meeting Saturday.
“Whatever you think the range of possible outcomes is [for China] over the next 25 years, [...]
The Fed was hit with withdrawals of $83.3 billion last Wednesday, the largest withdrawals from its deposit accounts that were not associated with quarterly tax payments since February of 2009. $7 billion of that was the net cash transferred to the US Treasury from its note and bond sales less outlays. The Fed still had to meet the other $76 billion. These transactions were revealed in the Fed’s weekly H.4.1 [...]

(Reuters) – The Treasury is weighing a proposal to eliminate some, but not all, of the taxes on overseas profits of U.S.-based companies, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing two people familiar with the deliberations.
Eliminating the taxes on some of the profits is a central element of the Obama administration’s broader plans to overhaul the corporate tax code, the newspaper said.

Higher education fails to provide students “good value” for the money they and their families spend, more than half of U.S. adults said in a survey.
The debate over higher education’s value “has been triggered not just by rising costs but also by hard economic times,” according to a report released yesterday by the Washington-based Pew Research Center. The organization, an independent research group funded by Philadelphia-based Pew Charitable Trusts, surveyed [...]
Despite having no internet access in his hideout, Osama bin Laden was a prolific email writer who built a painstaking system that kept him one step ahead of the U.S. government’s best eavesdroppers.
His methods, described in new detail to The Associated Press by a counterterrorism official and a second person briefed on the U.S. investigation, served him well for years and frustrated Western efforts to [...]
Confidence in the U.S. system of government has dropped to a new low in more than 35 years, with public attitudes burdened by continued economic discontent, soaring gasoline prices, record opposition to the war in Afghanistan — and a letdown in hopes for political progress after a bout of bipartisanship last fall. Only 26 percent of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say they’re optimistic [...]
Our great industrial nation is controlled by it’s system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men…who necessarily by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom.
