UN: Rebels – Not Syrian Government – Used Chemical Weapons
UN investigator Carla Del Ponte said that there is strong evidence that the rebels used chemical weapons, but that there is not evidence that the government used such weapons:
This is not surprising. Haaretz reported on March 24th, “Jihadists, not Assad, apparently behind reported chemical attack in Syria“.
The “rebels” in Syria that the U.S. has been arming and otherwise supporting are Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood.
Unfortunately, history is repeating.
A string of bombings across Iraq has claimed at least 55 lives, injuring 300 more, on Monday. The surge in violence comes barely a week ahead of Iraq hosting elections for the first time since US withdrawal from the country.
Officials said bombings hit 12 different areas, leaving 55 people dead and making Monday the country’s deadliest day since March 19, AFP reported.
The capital Baghdad and the surrounding area have seen 10 [...]
(CNN) – Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea.
“We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide.
Cheney talked about the North Korean leader, Southerland said, and shared some of his history dealing with Saddam Hussein, noting “you never know what they’re thinking.”
At the time the US President, George W Bush, announced an inquiry into how the papers had acquired the image of the “Beast of Baghdad” while he was in the custody of US troops in Iraq.
Now the picture is again a matter of controversy, following a claim that Mr Murdoch’s holding company, News Corporation, obtained it by bribing a member of the US military. The American news website The Daily [...]

A senior Syrian government spokesman just confirmed his nation did indeed possess chemical weapons, and might employ them against a “foreign aggressor.”
The embattled regime of Bashar Asad just managed to shoot itself in both feet, provide ammunition to Syria’s enemies, and give them yet another excuse to intervene in its raging civil war.
Western governments and media that have become cheerleaders for Syria’s rebels, went into full trumpet mode, issuing [...]

The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein’s air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.
The pilots told Mr. Sada that two Iraqi Airways Boeings were converted to cargo planes by removing the seats, Mr. Sada said. Then Special Republican Guard brigades loaded [...]
During the heated U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Scott Brown were asked questions, then wrote down their answers – the questions were on foreign policy. The contrast between the two was telling.
One particular question stuck out: ’Was the War in Iraq, which ended last year, a worthwhile effort or was it a mistake from the start? About 4,500 US military members were killed and another 32,000 injured. What was accomplished in [...]

Welcome to Capital Account. The Federal Reserve came out with its interest rate decision today. They voted to keep rates at essentially zero, and hinted that they expect them to stay there until at least late 2014.
Before we get into the what this decision means with our guest English Bob, contributing editor for Zero Hedge, let’s start with a little story.

Former United States president George W Bush issued an ultimatum to Saddam Hussein before bombing and invading Iraq.
Nine years later, US President Barack Obama has issued an ultimatum to the leadership in Tehran before … setting optimal conditions for an “all options on the table” exercise.
Obama has made an offer to Tehran to “negotiate” its nuclear program – ahead of long-delayed talks between the “Iran Six” (P5+1 [...]
The highest ranking member of Saddam Hussein’s ousted regime, is still at large, according to a video posted on the internet.
The film shows a man, introduced as Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, lashing out against Iraq’s Shiite-led government.
It was posted on a website linked to Saddam’s now-outlawed Baath party on Saturday but it was not possible to verify the authenticity of the video.
High-profile: A video posted online Saturday purports to show Izzat [...]
This email came my way and I am posting it for a weekend change of pace from the fabricated news dumps. It brings a lot of thoughts to mind, especially in view of the headline incident in Afghanistan two weeks ago.
GOD BLESS our men and women in service.

Newt Gingrich and second wife Marianne Gingrich.
On October 5, Sarkis Soghanalian, once the world’s largest private arms dealer, died at 82. He had sold weapons to scores of dictators including Saddam Hussein, and he took many secrets with him to his grave… one secret he did not take involves Newt Gingrich when [...]
The Big Lie vs. Barack Obama (Part 1)
President Barack Obama is routinely described as being a “Muslim-Marxist” or “Muslim-Communist” or “Muslim-Socialist.”
I am often asked why we have heard or read for over two years the same lies about President Barack Obama. I have tried to explain that the Big Lie Technique is successful only if it is relentlessly repeated. Any lie heard often enough becomes “the truth.” Since WWII, the [...]

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US security firm formerly known as Blackwater, which was barred from Iraq over a deadly 2007 shooting, renamed itself a second time Monday.
USTC Holdings, the investor consortium that acquired ex-Blackwater firm Xe Services in December 2010, announced ACADEMI as the new name and brand for Xe Services.
The rebranding came as President Barack Obama met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki Monday, marking America’s exit [...]
Robert Fisk: Why Torturers Film Their Handiwork (November 26, 2011)
“When prisoners were brought to Saddam Hussein’s intelligence service for interrogation, their torturers often videotaped the torment. In the years after his downfall, I lectured around the world on the illegality and the immorality and the outrageous civilian slaughter of the invasion of Iraq by George W Bush and Lord Blair… But I also carried with me extracts from those obscene [...]
BAGHDAD (AP) — For the first time in decades, Iraqis face a future on their own, with neither Saddam Hussein’s iron fist nor the United States’ military might to hold them together. This has been both their dream and nightmare: They wanted American troops (the occupiers) to go, but they wanted American troops (the protectors) to stay.
Now many fear an increase in violence, growing Iranian influence and political turmoil after [...]

The value of the deal was not immediately known, but a senior U.S. military official said recently the offer on the table for the Iraqi government was valued at “roughly $3 billion.”
Iraqi and U.S. military officials have said strengthening its air force [...]

Some believe it is about protecting civilians, others say it is about oil, but some are convinced intervention in Libya is all about Gaddafi’s plan to introduce the gold dinar, a single African currency made from gold, a true sharing of the wealth.
“It’s one of these things that you have to plan almost in secret, because as soon as you say you’re going to [...]
Under a special program started by Congress back in 1984, the U.S. government has paid $100 million to dozens of people who helped bring international terrorists to justice. But the reward for the most notorious terrorist of all — Osama bin Laden — could go unclaimed.
The State Department’s Rewards for Justice Program had a $27 million bounty on bin Laden. Oficials removed bin Laden from their [...]
