Why seven hours’ sleep a night ‘is key to a healthy retirement’

Too much sleep ‘can bring on dementia’

If you’re planning to take it easy in retirement, be careful. Too many lie-ins could be bad for your brain.

Scientists believe that those who restrict themselves to seven hours a night can prevent their brain from ageing by an extra two years, compared with those who get too much shut-eye – or not enough.

American researchers found that older women who managed seven hours a [...]

Romney accidentally reminded everybody that when he says he’d cut government, he’s talking about cutting services people like.

Earlier today, I quoted Sherrod Brown making an expansive case that, yes, government does create jobs, and Dems should say so loudly and often. “During the fifties, the sixties, the seventies, the eighties, the United States had great infrastructure programs,” Brown said. “We were the envy of the world. Those are clear formulaic job creating strategies that we know.”

Mike Tomasky comments:

Whenever I read something like this, what I wonder is, why isn’t there [...]

As UK goes into multi bailouts, quantitative easing and debt levls rise, amidst intensifying austerity to the people, signs of stagflation noticed:

The latest official figures expected this week for growth and price rises may show signs of ‘stagflation’ – a disastrous combination of economic stagnation and high inflation.

Such a mixture of slump and rising living costs, coming soon after the first double-dip recession since 1975, would suggest there might be a return to the calamitous economic performance of the Seventies.

It had been hoped that last month’s first estimate of growth in [...]

STEVE JOBS LIVES!

He was the visionary genius behind the Apple brand who sadly passed away at the young age of 56 last year after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

And when reports first started emerging that Ashton Kutcher was set to play Steve Jobs in a film about his life, many eyebrows were raised, and not in a good way.

But new pictures have emerged of the actor in costume as the Mac boss [...]

IMF warns Britain may need to raise retirement age faster to avoid a debt spiral

British workers should be forced to delay their retirements to save the country from financial ruin, according to the International Monetary Fund.

It said the national debt would spiral out of control if the average lifespan in the UK rose by just three years more than predicted.

The organisation warned that the ‘financial implications of people living longer than expected’ are ‘very large’, and could cripple public finances as the cost of [...]

Gold, the Dollar and the Failure of Currencies: Julian D. W. Phillips

The U.S. Fed and Congress want to see a far weaker dollar against all other currencies but can’t see it because of the structure of the currency system!

In the last two weeks we have seen the strongest and most respected currencies being purposely weakened by their own central banks.   It is at times like these, when the going gets tough that national monetary [...]
