(Reuters) – Mammoth Lakes, California filed on Tuesday for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection from its creditors due to a nearly $43 million legal judgment against it.
The filing follows a vote Monday by Mammoth Lake’s town council in favor of a bankruptcy filing, specifically to seek protection from the property developer awarded the judgment against the resort town of about 8,000 residents in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Large parts of Nevada and California experienced a loud explosion on Sunday morning as a result of a meteor.

Easy for him to say. When Rivest arrived earlier this week at the cabin near Soda Springs, about 90 miles northeast of Sacramento, the snow was so deep it nearly touched the power [...]
Record snow has been piling up in the Sierra Nevada this winter, bringing big business to ski resorts, and this will have great benefits for agriculture this summer.
To say that feet of snow have fallen in the Sierra Nevada this year would be an understatement as some areas have received a whopping 20 yards or more.
Squaw Valley has received 670 inches of snow with 589 inches [...]
