RALEIGH — A far-reaching plan proposed by Republicans in the state Senate would slow government spending and affect the wallet of every North Carolinian as it slashes income tax rates and raises the cost of food, prescription drugs and more than 100 tax-exempt services.
Senate leader Phil Berger outlined the forthcoming legislation Tuesday, calling it a $1 billion tax cut that is the largest in state history.

Goldman Slashes Q4 GDP Forecast To Just 1%
from businessinsider:
The latest data has prompted Goldman to cut its Q4 GDP forecast. It now sees just 1% growth.
The key points from Goldman’s Kris Dawsey:

Weaker inventory series in the monthly business sentiment surveys point to slowing inventory accumulation, and our quarterly models suggest some payback from Q3’s [...]
Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is slashing the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time instructors to dodge paying for Obamacare.
“It’s kind of a double whammy for us because we are facing a legal requirement [under the new law] to get health care and if the college is reducing our hours, we don’t have the money to pay for it,” said adjunct biology professor Adam Davis.

There are fears that Catalunyans, who like to distinguish between themselves [...]
Analyst Richard Greenfield at BTIG just cut Facebook’s stock to SELL.
Greenfield thinks the “high engagement on mobile ads” metrics Facebook has been citing recently to whip up enthusiasm for its mobile opportunity are a function of accidental or deceptive clicks rather than evidence that Facebook users actually want to share Facebook ads with their friends.
Greenfield also thinks Facebook is so desperate to generate revenue growth that it is now flooding the service with ads and, in so [...]
UBS analyst Steve Milunovich is slashing his iPhone estimate for the holiday quarter to 38 million, down from 44 million, citing supply issues:
“Poor outlooks from Skyworks and Jabil along with our checks indicate that iPhone supply issues limit near-term shipments. In-cell display manufacturing yields ramping gradually likely is the culprit. This shortfall mostly appears to be a timing issue though we assume some lost sales in an effort to be conservative.”
(Skyworks and Jabil [...]

Progressive organizations behind White House policy have crafted specific, second-term plans for President Obama to transform the U.S. Armed Forces into a social work-style organization designed to combat “global warming,” fight global poverty, remedy “injustice,” bolster the United Nations and increase “peacekeeping” forces worldwide.
The groups, already instrumental in influencing Obama’s first-term defense agenda, call for massive, second-term slashes to the military budget. The savings are to be used to invest [...]

From Fitch: “In particular, Spain is expected to remain in recession through the remainder of this year and 2013 compared to the previous expectation that the economy would benefit from a mild recovery in 2013.
