The U.S. Senate is expected to pass a new law Monday making it easier for states to enforce online sales tax
Local retailers are rejoicing while small online shops call the expectation a huge burden as they scramble to comply with soon-to-be law
Few taxpayers know they’re expected to pay sales tax on online purchases, so a new law likely to pass in Congress Monday will help states force retailers to pay [...]
Let me try to understand this: The key incentive for small businesses to support Obamacare was that they would be able to shop for the best deals in health care super-stores—called exchanges. The Administration has had 3 years to set up these exchanges. It has failed to do so.
This is a really bad sign. There will be those who argue that it’s not the Administration’s fault. It’s the fault of the 33 [...]
From Charles Hugh Smith:
… The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), i.e. Obamacare, is a neutron bomb for employment. A neutron bomb is an enhanced-radiation thermonuclear weapon that famously leaves buildings, autos, etc. intact but kills all the people, even those inside buildings, vehicles, etc.
Obamacare will act as a neutron bomb on employment in the U.S. for two basic reasons:
1. It is immensely complex, and already-marginalized small business owners [...]
Michael A. Gayed: Retailers look increasingly vulnerable
Yes, the Dow is over 14,000. Yes it sure feels like a bull market. Yes, the argument for the “Great Re-Allocation” out of bonds and into stocks is a powerful narrative and one that I believe is a longer-term theme for markets. Yes, I have been early in calling for a decline.
No, I am not changing my call for a correction based on [...]
Goldman Sachs President and COO Gary Cohn spoke with Bloomberg Television’s Stephanie Ruhle on “Market Makers” from Cleveland, OH today, one of the cities where Goldman provides education and funding for small business owners.
Cohn said that, “there is really only one way that interest rates can go over some period of time which is ultimately higher. I’m concerned that the general public does not quite understand the pricing of bonds [...]

The establishment media is extending kudos today to vice president Joe Biden for hammering out a deal that supposedly averted the so-called fiscal cliff.
“I want to thank the work that was done by my extraordinary vice president, Joe Biden,” Obama said late Tuesday night.
The Republican Senate boss, Mitch McConnell, went over Democrat majority leader Harry Reid’s head to negotiate with Biden.
“It was the fateful decision that put the Senate [...]

Sky News notes:
“According to the BIS’ latest Quarterly Review financial markets are starting to behave in some of the ways they behaved before the crash. In particular, investors seem to be chasing riskier and riskier assets, despite the fact that the economic prospects are hardly all that great.
Here is the key passage from the BIS report: “Some asset prices started to appear highly valued in historical terms relative to indicators [...]
From Global Economic Trend Analysis:
A Gallup random dial poll of 607 small businesses conducted November 12-16 2012 asked the question “Over the next 12 months, do you expect the overall number of job positions at your company to increase a lot, increase a little, stay the same, decrease a little, or decrease a lot?”
The net survey results show Small-Business Owners’ Hiring Intentions Plunge.
U.S. small-business owners expect to add fewer net [...]
As you know, GOP Rep. Tom Cole made waves today by urging Republicans to give in to the Dem demand that they extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone under $250,000. Cole argued this would remove the leverage Dems have and give the GOP more leverage to fight to extend the high-end tax cuts later, since Dems want the fiscal cliff averted and also want a debt ceiling hike.
Today John [...]

Earlier today, Twitchy related some heartbreaking stories of small business owners laying off workers to avoid the economic impact of the Obamacare tax that isn’t a tax. Comedian Jon Lovitz, a small business owner himself, was no barrel of laughs either as his timeline filled with stories of impending downsizing. So, what about those big corporations? Boeing’s defense division announced yesterday it would cut 30 percent of management staff, and the [...]

YUBA CITY (CBS13) – A disability debacle is playing out in Yuba City as officials are paying a man to stay away. And because of it, he’s cashing in.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Just hearing the word Unicor is enough to make Kurt Wilson see red.
Unicor is a government-run enterprise that employs over 13,000 inmates — at wages as low as 23 cents an hour — to make goods for the Pentagon and other federal agencies.
With some exceptions, Unicor gets first dibs on federal [...]

A Garden Grove, California, jewelry store owner thwarted an armed robbery with a handgun on Sunday and sent masked robbers scurrying for their lives. A surveillance video shows the gutsy 65-year-old woman with gun in hand chasing the would-be robbers outside.
The incident sends a strong message to the criminal element – engage in unlawful and threatening behavior at your peril. Instead of cowering in fear and allowing thugs [...]
With Rasmussen showing Romney enjoying a five-point lead (and that’s a pollster everyone in media knows is reliable, which is why they prefer juiced NBC polls), the media is now in pure panic mode. Furthermore, Obama’s Media Palace Guards know that when the full context is played of Obama’s revealing ”you didn’t build that” quote, it’s absolutely devastating for Obama because the full context of those comments show the President openly ridiculing America’s small business owners.
So what’s a [...]
MANCHESTER — The New Hampshire businessman who appears in a Mitt Romney television ad accusing President Barack Obama of “demonizing” small business owners has gone to his local police after receiving two “harassing” telephone calls and, he says, hundreds of nasty emails.
“It’s frightening to me,” said Jack Gilchrist of Gilchrist Metal Fabricating of Hudson, who also said Thursday he received hundreds of supportive emails as well.
Gilchrist said that while “there [...]
Entrepreneurs who start businesses are widely believed to do more to create jobs and economic growth than big businesses or government, according to a Rasmussen Reports telephone survey released on Monday.
Most survey respondents also believe that small-business owners work harder than other Americans and are primarily responsible for the success or failure of their businesses.
Seventy-two percent of the 1,000 likely U.S. voters surveyed by telephone on July 21 and [...]
“Mitt Romney recently launched a TV ad that blatantly twists President Obama’s words on small-business owners and entrepreneurs. Romney’s not telling the truth about what the president said and is taking the president’s words out of context,” Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Miller said in a new web video released today.
With the economy threatening to fall into another recession and job growth plummeting, Obama came before the American people today demanding taxes be raised on those making over $250,000 a year, including what he admitted would include 3% of small businesses. Even if that 3% is correct, which is disputed, that 3% means a tax increase on 900,000 small businesses.
That’s nearly a million small business owners who will now be [...]
President Obama is obviously panicked. Last month Obama and his supporters spent a lot more than Mitt Romney, but even with that cash advantage and the media on their side, the polls haven’t budged. Moreover, the President and his campaign have been running around frantically trying to find something that will stick to Romney, be it provable lies about his outsourcing and outright smears involving offshore accounts. Still, Obama can’t [...]
IRS “easiest enforcer” of health care law
Paul Joseph Watson
Tuesday, July 3, 2012
Despite claiming Obamacare was “not a tax,” Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the Internal Revenue Service would be the “easiest enforcer” of penalties against those who refuse to comply with the new health care law.
“The way we usually think of taxation, Wolf, is that taxation as the IRS administers is collected [...]
