He made the revelation in a documentary for National Geographic – saying: “I would never have thought those silly things would still be there in 2013.”

A host of the Fox News show The Five was so angry that the Justice Department had investigated one of the network’s reporters that she told her viewers on Thursday to find anyone who voted for President Barack Obama and “punch them in the face.”
“Fox said, we’re targets, clearly Media Matters and others have put us on a target list,” Fox News host Andrea Tantaros explained on the Thursday edition [...]

If someone were to ask you for an example of a “totalitarian society”, how would you respond? Most Americans would probably think of horribly repressive regimes such as the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Communist China, East Germany or North Korea, but the truth is that there is one society that has far more rules and regulations than any of those societies ever dreamed of having. In the United States [...]

During the nuclear honed days of the Cold War, the Soviet Union developed a uniquely dangerous missile able to strike anywhere in the U.S.
Loaded with multiple maneuverable warheads (MIRVs), while carrying decoys and chaff to keep from getting struck down, the technology undermined the entire balance of power between the two superpowers and struck fear into hard hearts at the Kremlin and the Pentagon alike.
It was a difficult era, fraught [...]
Scientists were hoping for giant flash on the moon that would intimidate the Soviet Union
Aim of mission was to launch the nuke by 1959
Plan was later scrapped due to possible danger to people on Earth
It may sound like a plot straight out of a science fiction novel, but a U.S. mission to blow up the moon with a nuke was very real in the 1950s.

Alyona Korolyova thought she had seen everything – the lifting ofRussia‘s ban on homosexuality after the Soviet Union fell, the slow appearance of mainstream gay clubs, and even, once, a young gay couple on a TV sitcom.
Then last week, Korolyova, 48, was forced to stand pressed against the wall of a gay-friendly club and watch as a group of burly men, their faces hidden with surgical masks, repeatedly kicked her [...]
In the days of the Soviet Union a tourist in Moscow could pay for his or her entire trip by selling a suitcase full of smuggled Levi’s jeans. Now, one could make substantially more sneaking a handbag full of the latest Apple products into Russia.
In this image conscious city, where Bentleys are so common that many owners simply curb park them, plenty of people are willing to plunk down some [...]
From Thomas Sowell:
The recently discovered tape on which Barack Obama said back in 1998 that he believes in redistribution is not really news. He said the same thing to Joe the Plumber four years ago. But the surfacing of this tape may serve a useful purpose if it gets people to thinking about what the consequences of redistribution are.
Those who talk glibly about redistribution often act as if people are [...]

If you were around and old enough to remember 1980 (I was), then you know that the “mood” in America back then was terrible.
Mortgage rates were at 20%, gas prices adjusted for inflation were near all-time highs, unemployment was at historically record highs, and we were in a recession.
But worse than that, as Americans we felt pretty bad about ourselves.
The Soviet Union had built up its military as ours [...]

If you read the mainstream media, pro-Obama websites like “Business Insider” or “CNBC.com,” you might be under the idea that this past Friday’s unemployment report was no big deal, housing has bottomed, and the transportation industry is indicating that growth is back in this anemic economy if you read the headlines and did not do your own research.
Well hell, I’m here to do the [...]

Russian technicians played a key part in the interception and shooting down of a Turkish warplane by Syria’s anti-aircraft defenses 10 days ago, Britain’s Sunday Times reported Sunday. Diplomatic sources in the Middle East told the paper that destroying the F-4E Phantom II was a split-second decision intended as a warning to NATO to stay out of Syria’s civil war.
A source in Israel’s Air Force was quoted as [...]

This past Friday, Barack Obama was at a Minneapolis-area Honeywell plant touting his economic recovery credentials to cheering disciples. One of the excited faithful was a young boy, fifth-grader Tyler Sullivan, who took the day off from school to hear the President speak.
The President was full of the usual bombast about how Congress needs to work with him to ‘build a strong economy’, and how he [...]

According to the semi-official U.S. National Debt Clock, America is now $15.5 trillion dollars in the red (and counting). How did we get here? In part, by putting government spending on autopilot — automatic payments of interest on the debt and annual increases in Social Security payouts.
And this month we learn that we’re making automatic purchases of military hardware that no one wants or needs.
Over in Washington, where most of [...]

Just when you thought it was safe to come out from your air raid shelter after Bibi returned from his U.S. foray to stoke up war fever, Maariv raises the temperature to a boiling point. Ben Caspit reports (Hebrew) that the cabinet now has, for the first time, a majority (eight votes for, six votes against) favoring the measure. This means that theoretically Bibi can begin an [...]

While he does have a new philosophy (at X% off MSRP of course, coming to a Kindle near you) to peddle, Nassim Taleb’s re-emergence from the darkness of the media spotlight starts with a bang: “I realized that something wrong is going on, and only one candidate ‘Ron Paul’ seems to have grasped the issues and is offering the right remedies“. Everybody is always remarking about how stuck our society feels these days. The music doesn’t change, the political parties are all exactly the same, and films and TV dramas are almost always set in the past.
We are also stuck with an economic system that is not delivering the paradise that it once promised – but is instead creating chaos and hardship. Yet no-one can imagine a better [...]
