Woman answers door with gun, gets shot in the chest by cops and dies.

ST. PETERSBURG –
St. Petersburg police said they were forced to shoot a woman at her home on 13th Avenue N. when she pointed a gun at officers.

Police said the woman has died after an officer shot her in the chest.

“She pulled back the blinds and was standing there with a 38 special, pointing it at the officer when he fired,” said Bill Profitt, SPPD.

FL Woman Arrested On Charge She Rode Manatee

A St. Petersburg woman has been charged with violating Florida law by riding a manatee, authorities said.

Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, 53, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant Saturday on the charge of violating Florida’s Manatee Sanctuary Act. Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies say she was photographed riding the manatee at Fort De Soto Park in September.

GOP delays convention due to Hurricane Isaac

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — After watching Tropical Storm Isaac creep toward Florida for days, Republican National Convention officials decided late Saturday that it was too risky to start the event on Monday as planned.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said convention officials will only convene briefly on Monday and adjourn for the rest of the day.

The St. Petersburg man says he has been battling esophageal cancer for some time, but doctors recently told him the cancer has spread and his condition is terminal.

Coast Guard officials in Florida say they helped one seafood company with their big catch of the day — a 33-year-old man who took the establishment’s crab boat out for a ride.
