WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Tuesday proposed an effort to map the brain’s activity in unprecedented detail, as a step toward finding better ways to treat such conditions as Alzheimer’s, autism, stroke and traumatic brain injuries.
He asked Congress to spend $100 million next year to start a project that will explore details of the brain, which contains 100 billion cells and trillions of connections.
“What happens when the middle class loses much of their wealth, or it is confiscated, by the stroke of a pen or a keyboard? What will the stores look like when people, unprepared due to the damn lies of the corporate media and the shills for the ruling elite, run to empty out everything they can get their hands on as the world, as they know it, collapses around them?”
Women are more angry and hostile if they get insufficient sleep, say North Carolina scientists
Sleep deprivation also increases women’s risk of heart disease, stroke and depression
But a man’s health is barely affected by lack of sleep
If the woman in your life woke up grumpy this morning, don’t be too hard on her. It is, apparently, only natural.
Scientists have discovered that women need more sleep than men. And chances are, she’s [...]

by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, The Telegraph:
Membership of the EU single market is the UK’s only legal defence against an onslaught of regulations aimed at forcing banks and fund managers to decamp to the eurozone, they say.

After announcing the auction on YouTube, the Sapeacu native, who has so far received three bids, the highest at $35,000, told CNN: ’I [...]

On the most basic level, inflammation is the way in which the body reacts to a disturbance, be it infection, irritation, or other injury. More specifically, however, the inflammatory response – which in addition to swelling can also include redness, warmth, and pain – occurs when blood, antibodies, and other immune system components rush to the scene of the crime to attempt to repair the damage.
In most areas of [...]
On Saturday, we wrote that more and more people are starting to wonder if central banks like the Bank of England and The Fed can just “rip up” the debt that they’ve bought via Quantitative Easing, and reduce the national debt of these countries with the stroke of a key.
Asking this question, and thinking about the implications of it, is the equivalent of taking the ‘Red Pill’ of economics. The Red Pill, of course, is [...]

A British man left paralyzed by a catastrophic stroke seven years ago is awaiting a High Court ruling in London Thursday on whether he has a legal right to end his life when he chooses.
Tony Nicklinson’s condition means it is impossible for him to take his own life — and he wants the legal right to have a doctor take his life without fear of prosecution.
But this would [...]

A new multipurpose pill that reduces blood pressure and cholesterol while lowering a person’s risk of heart attack and stroke could ostensibly save thousands of lives a year, according to a new British study. How does it work?
The “four-in-one pill,” [...]

Eating foods that are high in saturated fat — red meat, butter, and other animal products — clog your arteries and increase your risk for heart disease and stroke. Until now, that’s all we thought they did. Now it seems that saturated fats may also be linked to how efficiently our brains work.
In a paper published today in Annals of Neurology, a team of scientists analyzed [...]

Sure, why not. Let’s have yet another biography of Elizabeth II, this one as she’s about to mark 60 years on the throne.
So what is new to justify Sally Bedell Smith’s massive “Elizabeth the Queen”? What is left to uncover, and what should be left uncovered and unknown in the life of this exemplary lady whose predetermined existence of regal obligation is yawningly unenviable, however bejeweled the box it comes in?

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC): “I’ve said time and time again, if the President gets up to August 2nd, without a piece of legislation, he should not allow this country to go into default. He should sign an Executive Order invoking the 14th Amendment and send that to all the governmental agencies for us to continue to pay our bills. He could do that with a [...]

Any stat that can actually improve without actually curing the problem it measures is fatally flawed.
Honestly we could actually add 0 jobs but, by subtracting millions from the workforce, the unemployment rate could appear we were all working.
This of course is why they have the statistic, so they can show how well they are doing when the rate drops.
I love how some on the board are [...]
