Iran to Display First Home-Made Semi-Heavy Submarine in Months

Iranian defense officials announced on Saturday that the country would display its first 500-ton submarine in the next few months.

Deputy Defense Minister for Industrial and Research Affairs Mohammad Eslami said the designing and construction of Iran’s new indigenous submarine is in its final phases and the new submarine will be launched by August 22, marking the National Day of the Defense Industry.

The US fleet possibly out guns the Iranian fleet, however, once things escalate that could mean war along with losses of life and all the complications and ramifications of what happens next, including any involvement from other countries.

Iran has much larger forces than Iraq had and is ranked as 12th largest military force in the world, with a combined total of active, reservists and paramilitary 7th in the world with 3,833,000 compared to US at 2,937,899. Also they have 1030 aircraft, 1793 tanks, 357 helicopters, 261 ships, 19 submarines, 12,393 land weapons:

The Navy’s Modified X-47B Unmanned Drone Makes China’s ‘Carrier-Killing’ Missiles Obsolete

The X-47B, unmanned carrier drone, took its first recorded flight in September (video below) and the Navy just announced it’s adding refueling capabilities to the aircraft by 2014.

David Ax, at Wired, reports the move will allow the X-47B to remain in flight well beyond 3,000 nautical miles — 10 times the ability of a traditional manned fighter.
