From The Reformed Broker:
The overarching theme of David Einhorn’s excellent presentation today at the Value Investing Congress was that all investors need to do their own homework and should never follow anyone blindly into a trade. And so I can only assume he’d be glad to see the below dissension over one of his stock ideas from this morning.
Wall Streeter Damon Vickers emailed me this point-by-point rebuttal challenging Einhorn’s short [...]
Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. took a nosedive on Tuesday when hedge fund manager David Einhorn said the restaurant chain will face significant competition and additional costs, making it an attractive “short.”
In a presentation at the annual Value Investing Congress in New York, Einhorn highlighted some stocks he expects will rise such as General Motors, but devoted much of 120-slide presentation to devouring national chain Chipotle.
Einhorn, who runs [...]
The International Franchise Association held a convention in Washington this week where most of the Radio Shack, Dunkin Donuts, Curves and other franchisers were grumbling about new federal regulations, especially the impact of Obamacare.
Most, said Atlanta Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken franchiser David Barr, presumed that the reports about how hard Obamacare will hit them were overblown. “They had their head in the sand,” he told Secrets.
That is until [...]
A Taco Bell employee has been fired after urinating on a plate of nachos and posting the shocking image online.
Cameron Jankowski, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, uploaded the photograph to Twitter alongside the caption, ‘Guess where I work,’ and the hashtags ‘#pissolympics’ and ‘#nachobellgrande’.
The Tweet, which has since been deleted, was addressed to Hunter Moore, the man behind the now-defunct ‘revenge porn’ website Is Anyone Up?
Moore declared Jankowski the ‘winner of [...]

Whether it’s a general apathy for all things political, youth just turning a blind-eye to current events, or a reflection of the sad state of public education, it seems that kids these days aren’t too savvy when it comes to presidential candidates, other than Barack Obama.
Hopefully this is an over-generalization, but judging by what transpired when my friends and I tried to post our “Stop Dictator Obama” [...]

Residents of Bethel, Alaska, know from cable TV ads what the major fast-food chains offer: chicken at KFC, burgers at McDonald’s and tacos at Taco Bell.
They just haven’t been able to get any of it.
The city of 6,200 people is about 40 miles inland from the Bering Sea in far western Alaska, and the closest fast food other than a Subway sandwich shop is in Anchorage, 400 [...]

It’s a feeling many fast food customers are familiar with – the excited anticipation of the double hamburger and fries about to come your way – only to be replaced by feelings of guilt and dissatisfaction as soon as you’ve finished.
And now it’s official, Americans who frequent the most popular fast-food restaurants are less happy with their health than the average citizen, according to a new survey conducted by consumer-focused [...]

As You Can See From My Name-Brand Clothing, I Am Not Poor (February 9, 2000)
“Just because I happen to live with my four brothers and sisters in my mom’s two-bedroom South Side apartment, work at Taco Bell, and don’t have a car, some ignorant types assume that I don’t have much money. But, as you can clearly see from my $220 Fubu jacket and $95 Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirt, [...]

We may love our clam chowder, our pizza, our ice cream and our fried clams. But even Bostonians, apparently, have limits when it comes to food.
A new study of which cities spend the most on fast food from Bundle examined spending data from 100 cities and found that the folks in Plano, Tex. apparently can’t get enough Big Macs. Plano ranked No. 1 in fast food [...]

LOS ANGELES — McDonald’s Corp, Burger King, KFC and Taco Bell are the biggest U.S. fast-food chains, but they lag smaller rivals like In-N-Out Burger and Chick-fil-A when it comes to taste, according to a new survey released on Thursday by Consumer Reports.
“Chains like McDonald’s and Taco Bell boast supersized values, but consumers don’t necessarily think they offer much bang for the buck,” said Tod Marks, Consumer Reports’ senior projects [...]
The Orient once again transcends culinary norms with China’s introduction of an Irish staple on an American food. The victim? Good ol’ KFC, doused with…Bailey’s Irish Cream?
This unique item is part of the “Taste of Ireland” campaign being run by KFC China and involves “splashing” standard KFC chicken (according to the video) with Bailey’s Irish Cream, which is essentially dumbed down whiskey. Chicken and whiskey. Yum.

Capital Exploits Labor: the U.S.-China Trade and Beyond
In a classic Marxist set-up, Capital is free to exploit labor because labor is in surplus.
The fundamental dynamics of the U.S.-China trade partnership–certainly the biggest economic story of this generation–boil down to “capital exploits labor.” I am well aware that this sort of quasi-Marxist analysis is supposed to be passe in the [...]
The gag order was contained in an agency letter informing outside scientists that its review of the dolphin die-off, classified as an “unusual mortality event (UME),” had been folded into a federal criminal investigation launched last summer into the oil spill.
“Because of the seriousness of the legal case, no data or findings may be released, presented or discussed outside the UME investigative team [...]
