An earthquake that struck the Oaxaca region of Mexico at 12:02 p.m. local time was revised slightly downward to magnitude 7.4, the United States Geological Society reports.
The epicenter was 15 miles east of the Acapulco resort area and 200 miles south, southeast of Mexico City. Its depth was recorded at 12.4 miles.

A jerking earthquake with an initial reported magnitude of 4.0 hit the Bay Area just after 5:30 Monday morning.
The quake was centered a mile north of El Cerrito, four miles north of Berkeley. Phone-in reports indicate that the quake was felt across much of the East Bay as well as the North Bay and San Francisco, according the the United States Geological Survey website.
