A Whole Foods supermarket in New York has removed a sign that used a drawing of President Barack Obama to advertise a sale on chicken after complaints that the ad was offensive.
The sign outside the supermarket on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, featuring an apparent caricature of Obama advertising an upcoming sale on whole organic chickens, outraged neighbor Woody Henderson.

Hell’s Kitchen is burning up — with the flu.
The neighborhood is the city’s most infected area — closely followed by the Upper West Side, Carroll Gardens and Elmhurst, Queens, according to a formula created by two upstate professors.
The complex, Twitter-based algorithm maps out areas of New York City that are hardest-hit with virus — and then color-codes the outbreaks in green, yellow and red.

Maybe Lady Gaga’s parents are forsaking their famous daughter.
How else to explain Joanne Trattoria, Joe and Cynthia Germanotta’s incomprehensible upper West Side eatery?
As if on purpose, the place is missing the creativity and commitment that made their daughter a star. The result is a careless, lifeless production that feels like a weird facsimile of a restaurant rather than the real thing.
I came with an open mind, despite the fact that most [...]
A popular Upper West Side restaurant was trashed by vandals who scrawled anti-Semitic graffiti on the walls — and cops yesterday were investigating whether a disgruntled ex-worker was to blame, sources said.
“It was like someone came in and went wilding. Vandalism is one thing, but it was a total defacement. They urinated everywhere,” said David Ruggerio, 50, owner of Lansky’s Old World Deli on Columbus Avenue.
“They smashed all the computers, [...]

A grocery store on Manhattan’s Upper West Side has created what appears to be New York City’s first “man aisle.”
“Initially it was a joke,” George Zoitas, owner of the Westside Market on 110th Street and Broadway, told CBS radio. “We were tossing around an idea about maybe making a man section with everything a man would need, whatever men buy.”
Zoitas and Ian Joskowitz, the store’s chief operating officer, decided to put their man-fantasy to the [...]

So much for serving the homeless.
The Bloomberg administration is now taking the term “food police” to new depths, blocking food donations to all government-run facilities that serve the city’s homeless.
In conjunction with a mayoral task force and the Health Department, the Department of Homeless Services recently started enforcing new nutritional rules for food served at city shelters. Since DHS can’t assess the nutritional content of donated food, shelters have to [...]
