Obese travellers would ‘blast through’ airplane seat belts in a crash, scientists have warned, claiming safety standards have failed to keep up with America’s growing waistline.
According to The New York Times, aircraft engineers are still designing seats for a passenger weight of 170 pounds, meeting rules written more than six decades ago.
But the average American man has ballooned to nearly 194 pounds, and the typical woman weighs 165.
