While millions continue to cope and clean up after Sandy, the last thing anyone wants is another storm to add to the misery.
Fortunately, there are no equals to Sandy to be found on the weather forecast maps. However, there is some indication that a more typical storm for November will form along the Atlantic coast next week and travel northeastward.
If the storm develops quickly right along the coast, rain would break [...]

Threat for mid-Atlantic, Northeast from hurricane Sandy
There is a consensus forming in weather forecast models that hurricane Sandyis unlikely to go out to sea. Instead, it more likely will merge with a strong fall cold front and transition into a powerhouse, possibly historic mid-latitude storm along the mid-Atlantic and/or Northeast coast Sunday through Wednesday.
The majority of models now take Sandy from its current position over Jamaica northward over the Bahamas before [...]
Weather forecasts published on Monday have dealt a blow to struggling farmers and families in the Mid West as they show that the drought is going to get worse, nearing Dust Bowl proportions.
For next week, the eastern Midwest is predicted to get ‘less than 0.25 inch of rain’, down from the morning forecast which called for up 0.75 inch rain, said Drew Lerner, meteorologist for World Weather Inc.
Lerner said the [...]
(CNN) – A severe drought is spreading across the Midwest this summer, resulting in some of the worst conditions in decades and leaving more than a thousand counties designated as natural disaster areas, authorities said.
Farmers in the region are suffering, with pastures for livestock and fields of crops becoming increasingly parched during June, according to the National Climatic Data Center. Many areas in the southern Midwest are reporting the poorest conditions for June [...]
Severe thunderstorms are once again knocking down trees and power lines in parts of the Northeast.
Saturday’s first severe thunderstorms developed shortly after 11 a.m. in upstate New York, west of Binghamton. Trees and power lines were brought down by thunderstorm winds in Watkins Glen and Elmira.
Further south, with crews still restoring power knocked out by the June 29 derecho, millions of people are bracing for the potential of additional severe [...]

The second heat wave of the summer will again test the power grid in our area just as a deadline comes for a possible Con Edison strike.

A mix of sun and clouds continues Saturday and temperatures will linger in the muggy low- to mid-90s. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in the [...]

Strong thunderstorms are rolling through the tri-state area Monday morning, bringing bursts of lightning, howling winds and possible nickle-sized hail pellets.
Forecasters urged residents to take adequate precautions on their way to work. Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour are possible with this storm, which could cause minor flooding of poor drainage areas and ponding in some places.
The National Weather [...]

Significant features show a low spinning up and moving into the Midwest pulling up a lot of deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
A negative-tilt trough will be associated with it and cooler air behind it.
