As NewsBusters reported two weeks ago, CBS’s Bob Schieffer is fed up with the White House’s talking points concerning what happened at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last September.
His impatience continued on Sunday’s Face the Nation when Obama senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer gave stock answers to questions about the three crises facing the President leading Schieffer to first accuse his guest of taking “exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took” and finally scolding [...]

President Barack Obama plans to name White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew tomorrow as his choice for Treasury secretary, replacing Timothy F. Geithner, a person familiar with the process said.
Lew, 57, who also has served as director of the Office of Management and Budget, has been offered the Treasury post by Obama, according to the person, who asked for anonymity to discuss personnel matters.
Geithner, 51, the only remaining member of [...]
White House officials have approached American Express Co. (AXP) Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Chenault about joining President Barack Obama’s second-term administration, possibly as Treasury secretary, according to two people familiar with the matter.
White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew remains the leading contender for the Treasury job, the people said. Still, consideration of Chenault among Obama’s staff may indicate the president hasn’t made a final decision on a replacement for Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, [...]
As President Obama plans to reshuffle his cabinet, the job of running the Treasury Department could fall to Google’s old CEO, Eric Schmidt, or Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg.
White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew is the favorite to replace Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, but Obama aide Pete Rouse is looking for “a Fortune 500 executive” to work under the president who embraced Occupy Wall Street.
(CNSNews.com) – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who formerly served as President Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff, promised a Florida fourth-grader interviewing him that “after the election”–but not before–he would tell him some funny stories about President Obama.
Jaylen Williams, a student in West Palm Beach, asked Emanuel on October 22: “Do you have any funny stories you can tell us about President Obama?”
Emanuel, who was visiting an Obama campaign [...]
UPDATED 09/11/12 – 5:34 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) – The Chicago teachers’ strike appeared likely to enter a third day, as Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis told a large crowd of teachers downtown that it’s “lunacy” to think a deal will be reached by the end of the day Tuesday.
Both sides were back at the negotiating table Tuesday morning to try to hammer out a deal. Efforts to do so failed Monday [...]
Bill Bennett suggested on his radio show this morning that the Romney-Ryan campaign (or someone else) cut an ad to make famous these remarks (delivered a year ago at the University of North Carolina) about Paul Ryan by Clinton White House chief of staff Erskine Bowles:
President Obama’s staff arranged for him to be personally briefed last summer on a loan program to help clean-energy companies, two months before the program was thrust into headlines by the collapse of its flagship, the solar com pany Solyndra, records show.
About the same time, then-White House Chief of Staff William Daley resolved a dispute among administration officials over another project in the program, clearing the way for a $1.4 billion loan, according to documents [...]
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former White House chief of staff for President Obama, referred media questions about his role in supporting the Solyndra loan guarantee to the attorneys in the White House.
“It’s simple, you just talk to the White House counsel,” Emanuel told 89 WLS, a Chicago radio show. “They are answering all the questions and they will answer any questions you have on the matter.”
Congressional Republicans asked the Obama administration on Friday for a list of White House staffers’ personal email addresses used to conduct government business — and copies of messages sent from those accounts — amid new scrutiny of presidential aides’ use of non-official accounts.
“The American people have a right to know that White House staff and federal officials are conducting the business of the government transparently and in accordance with record-keeping [...]
President Obama’s newest campaign commercial was filmed inside the West Wing of the White House, an act that campaign finance experts and good government groups generally agreed was legal if not particularly commendable.
In the ad, the president – sitting in the White House chief of staff’s office– lays out his view of the choice voters face this November.
White House officials confirmed that the ad was filmed in the Chief of Staff’s [...]
Republicans have seized on the Supreme Court’s health-law ruling to blast the Affordable Care Act as a giant tax on the middle class. Rush Limbaugh went so far as to call it the “biggest tax increase in the history of the world,” a preposterous claim we debunked in a previous column.
On Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew refused to acknowledge that the individual mandate represents a tax, even [...]
EXCLUSIVE: HBO appears obsessed by GOP Conservatives. There have been movies about the 2000 Bush vs Gore election standoff and Sarah Palin and most recently a TV series featuring George W Bush’s severed head. Now HBO has done a secret deal for an Untitled Roger Ailes Project. It’s based on the upcoming manuscript by media writer Gabriel Sherman who has written two cover stories for New Yorkmagazine on Ailes and Fox News, including his mammoth article “The Elephant In The Green Room” which came out [...]
(CNN) — Jack Lew, the White House chief of staff, said Sunday the Supreme Court decision upholding President Barack Obama’s health care measure should put to rest the national debate over the law’s practicality.
Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Lew said the Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law in 2010, needs to be fully implemented before Americans assess its merit, and that detractors of the law, including [...]
WASHINGTON — One Saturday last fall, President Obama interrupted a White House strategy meeting to raise an issue not on the agenda. He declared, aides recalled, that the administration needed to more aggressively use executive power to govern in the face of Congressional obstructionism.
“We had been attempting to highlight the inability of Congress to do anything,” recalled William M. Daley, who was the White House chief of staff at the time. “The [...]
WASHINGTON (AP) – Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has commuted on military aircraft to his home in northern California more than two dozen times since he took over the Pentagon in July, paying about $630 per trip for a roundtrip flight that costs the Pentagon about $32,000.
The totals detailed by defense officials lay out his reimbursements for the first time, showing he paid the Treasury about $17,000 for the 27 personal [...]
White House Chief of Staff Donald Regan
And today, Citi replaces JP Morgan as chief of staff.
Not too difficult to see the 2 party/1party system exposed as corporations buying politicians and running the place.
WASHINGTON — The White House abruptly announced Monday that it had scuttled plans to hold the upcoming G-8 economic summit in Chicago, and would instead host world leaders at the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland.
It was an unusually late location change for a large and highly scripted international summit and came with little explanation from the White House. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel — the former White House chief [...]
Lew: Obama’s latest stance on birth-control mandate final, puts issue to rest
By Mike Lillis – 02/12/12 10:38 AM ET
President Obama’s new birth-control stance should put to rest the controversy over employer-sponsored contraception coverage, a top administration official said Sunday.
White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew said Obama’s new plan, unveiled Friday, effectively addresses “the core issue” of simultaneously ensuring religious freedom and women’s access to healthcare.
“It does not force an [...]
