Walmart + Dick’s Sporting Goods suspends sale of semi-automatic rifles from stores nationwide, Dicks removed ALL guns from CT store!

CNN) — Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting “during this time of national mourning,” the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.

“We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy,” the statement said.

It was unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as ‘modern sporting rifles.’

UPDATE as Walmart is doing this for its web store (dunno if their regular stores are far behind?) –

Walmart announced Monday that the chain is pulling the Bushmaster Rifle from its web store, a military-style weapon similar to that used by 20-year-old Adam Lanza in the mass shooting that killed 20 children and six staff members Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Some reports said investigators are also trying to determine if Lanza purchased a gun from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store 12 miles away from Newtown in Danbury, Conn.

Dick’s Sporting Goods said the decision came out of respect for the deceased victims and their families. It’s unclear how long the store will keep the change in place.

Here’s this article that’s trashing Dick’s though…

The gun shop where the Newtown shooter tried to buy a rifle three days before embarking on his massacre is having an ammunition sale.

Dick’s Sporting Goods in Danbury, Connecticut is selling rounds as cheap as 5 cents a shot with 50 percent discounts on a range of bullets.

The prices of all ‘Big Game’ rifle ammunition as well as shotgun shells have been slashed.

WALMART IS DOING THE SAME for their web store!!

Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods Pull Certain Types Of Guns From Shelves In Response To Sandy Hook Tragedy

Walmart announced Monday that the chain is pulling the Bushmaster Rifle from its web store, a military-style weapon similar to that used by 20-year-old Adam Lanza in the mass shooting that killed 20 children and six staff members Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves

Dick’s Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week’s shooting in Connecticut.

If you click on the “modern sporting rifles” section of Dick’s Sporting Goods’ website, you won’t see much. The section is blank, a white block of nothing, because Dick’s isn’t selling those rifles anymore.

The sporting goods retailer has suspended sales of its semi-automatic guns nationwide. It’s also taken all of its guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.

The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.

Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman’s Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart’s site still shows that it’s selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.

    IGNORANCE RULES!

If the madman had used gasoline to kill innocents, would there be a hue and cry to ban it? Emotion over intellect. I understand the need to do SOMETHING, but giving away the freedom earned with the blood of our forefathers in the heat of the moment is an error.

In 2005 (the latest year data was available. Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics on infanticide), 555 children age 5 and under were murdered by a parent. Did you read that? A parent. Where’s the 24 hour news coverage on that? Where’s the presidential tears? Where’s the call for parent registration or all out bans on parents? Using the irrational arguments we’ve heard thusfar, a loving parent is likely to murder their child because other evil or mentally ill parents have? Same logic as gun owners are going to kill because a small percentage of a percent have.
