We need to focus on GDP per capita instead. With fast declining natural resources, and billions of Asians wanting a similar lifestyle as the rich West, the present path we are on is unsustainable. In the near future, it will be increasingly difficult to provide everyone with food, water, housing, jobs, energy, education, health care and other basic services. And there’s only so much that technology can accomplish. Natural resources, like oil, coal, uranium, phosphorus and gas, are finite and can’t be replaced. And overpopulation also has enormous effects on our environment. Even if you don’t believe in climate change, the shocking loss of forests, resulting in a drastic drop of biodiversity, is undeniable. On top of that, the seas are also being overfished, our air is polluted and our drinking water supplies are shrinking and even poisoned. To continue like this, we would have to have a couple extra planet Earths! To turn the tide, we have to encourage human population control with free contraception.

Like someone else said a few days ago on this website, it is either going to be 3 billion people with a modern standard of living, or 20 billion people living like rats in a cage.
