France – A mayor resigns after his house burns down following a project to install a migrant center

A mayor was forced to resign after his house burned down
Here is what happened

For months in Saint Brevin des Pins, demonstrations have been organized by the extreme right in the city
They protest against a project of the mayor yannik morez who wants to move the city’s migrant reception center near a school

At the end of March the protest went even further.
The mayor’s house and two cars caught fire during the night while he and his family were sleeping
A criminal investigation is underway but the mayor continues to receive threats.

This week he decided to resign stating: ‘I took this decision for personal reasons, especially following the arson attack on my home and the lack of support from the state and after a long reflection with my family’.

Emmanuelle Macron reacted on Twitter by saying that these attacks against yannick morez were unworthy

On the T-gram channel “Canal Natio,” which is widely followed by the far right, the announcement was greeted by hundreds of emojis representing bottles of champagne:

“The colluder mayor of Saint-Brevin, threatened with death, has resigned after the arson of two vehicles and his house.”

The ultra-right is jubilant after the resignation of Mayor Yannick Morez (various right), who had endorsed, in February 2022, the relocation of a reception center for asylum seekers (CADA), at the request of the state, in his town of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique).

France Bleu quoted a statement by Morez saying he plans not only to resign but to leave the town he has lived in for 32 years at the end of June.
