It’s likely that they were already getting hit with chargebacks late in the day on the West Coast before closing.

They had to have realized they’re going to get slammed with chargebacks. Whether or not they are successful in disputes it’s going to damage their reputation and take a much larger manpower effort defending every dispute than simply refunding all the money.

GoFundMe is owned and run by leftists based in California and the two tech venture capital firms (Accel, TCV) that own a majority stake in the company since 2015 likely have employees that lurk on social media.

They are both well known in the finance world and have investments in many Silicon Valley startups.

The duo had previously avoided capital funding, and used GoFundMe’s revenue of transaction fees to power their high velocity startup. Now they are selling a majority stake in the business to an investor group led by Accel Partners and Technology Crossover Ventures according to the report.

GoFundMe openly permitted fundraisers for BLM and Antifa when cities were occupied, looted, and burned to the ground, allowed payoff fundraisers i.e. moneylaundering for Democrats making ridiculous accusations, but removed legal defense fundraisers for Kyle Rittenhouse, Michael Flynn and others.

Removing the Freedom Convoy fundraiser supporting Canadian truckers re-enforces that GoFundMe is not neutral when it comes to politics.
